AI Innovation Week

We recently completed the second innovation week of this year at my current company, where the focus was on using AI to see how it can transform us and the healthcare industry where we operate.

A number of researches we conducted during the innovation week:

Azure AI Search

We have looked at advanced and effective searching of datasets on a large scale. This can be expanded with AI intelligence, such as natural language processing models, to better understand the intent behind searches. Machine learning can also be used to personalize search results based on relevance, user preferences and context.

AI in automated testing

We have explored how AI can improve automated testing using GitHub Copilot. For unit tests, AI can automatically generate tests based on the codebase, saving time for developers especially on small test cases. As a test assistant, GitHub Copilot can certainly benefit you by improving the quality of tests and helping developers focus on what they want to test rather than how they want to write tests.

GitHub Copilot for software development

For software development, Github Copilot offers efficiency improvements, especially in feature development. Finding a balance between automation and human control is important. Training and a good onboarding plan are essential to make the most of Github Copilot and share best practices. The potential of Github Copilot is great, but context remains a challenge.

Copilot for Microsoft 365 and Teams Premium

These tools can enormously improve productivity within an organization. By automatically action points during meetings, the discussed next steps can be quickly initiated. Automatically generated transcripts make it easy to review what was discussed and share information. Although writing good prompts remains a challenge, the possibilities are enormous.

Azure AI services and Machine Learning for analysis and detection of improper use

We investigated how AI can be used to analyze and detect improper use. This included monitoring login processes and automatically detecting abnormal and irregular login attempts. A working chatbot has also been presented so that an end user can use it to ask questions about deviations.

I thought it was an inspiring week. As part of the team focused on investigating improper use, I learned a lot about the concepts and applications of AI. From preparing good datasets, training and testing machine learning models, and deploying this in a safe AI environment that is applicable to the organization.

The AI landscape in Azure is diverse and offers many possibilities. If company data is used in AI applications, it is important to know how this data will end up in a secure environment and only be available to the right people. During the innovation week, I was able to learn what opportunities Azure AI offers and how they can be applied. It was also great to work with colleagues from other teams and get to know the organization better. It was inspiring to see how driven other project teams were and how we were able to achieve a good end result together.

I’m also impressed with GitHub Copilot’s capabilities. As a DevOps Engineer, I work on code every day in an environment where new developments are constantly taking place. GitHub Copilot has helped me in recent weeks to better understand and improve our codebase. The potential to make our work better, more efficient and easier is clearly palpable.

AI innovation can bring many benefits to an organization, but it also brings challenges and potential risks that must be carefully managed. That is why an AI Board has been established to manage AI technologies in an ethical, strategic and efficient manner. The innovation week was a good starting point to investigate the possibilities. It is now important to take the right steps to create a strategy and vision for using AI that is aligned with our business objectives.

Our mission is to reduce administrative burdens and costs in healthcare. AI can contribute to this, but it is essential to develop and enforce ethical guidelines that meet legal requirements. The use of AI in the organization also requires the necessary training of employees so that AI can be used safely and effectively as a valuable tool.

I am happy to be part of this AI journey and of this innovative organization that sees the possibilities and wants to tackle them in a responsible way. Our unique mix of creatives, software developers and innovative thinkers gives us a powerful advantage in embracing AI to get the most out of the technology. I look forward to the upcoming AI developments!
